Simple Instructions for Children and Families
This page helps children understand what will happen during a qEEG brain mapping appointment in a calm, simple, and reassuring way.
The process is non-invasive. The cap may feel snug, and the child may feel some wetness from the gel, but the recording does not hurt.

What Will Happen During the Appointment
These instructions are written in a simple first-person style so children can read them with a parent or caregiver before the visit.

Getting Comfortable
I will sit on the chair or on mom’s lap if I want to.

Putting On the Cap
The man or lady will put a funny-looking cap on my head after placing a belt over my chest.

Feeling the Cap
It might feel a little tight, but after a while it will feel OK.

Keeping Hands Still
It is very important that I do not touch the cap or touch my ears.

Adding the Gel
The man or lady will place some liquid into the holes in the cap using a small blunt-tipped applicator.

No Pain
It may feel wet, but it will not hurt.

Watching a Movie
I can watch the movie while this is happening.

Getting Ready
The man or lady will tell me when it is time to record my qEEG.

Sitting Still
I will try to sit very still and watch an interesting movie.

Taking the Cap Off
Once we are done, the man or lady will take the cap off.

Cleaning My Hair
Then he or she will clean my hair.

All Done
Then I am done.
